Music Monday #22: Marjorie Mays
Marjorie Mays shares her current favorite songs –– old and new –– in this edition of Music Monday.
Hey, I’m Marjorie and I’m here to share some of my current or all time favorite songs with you. I think music is so special because it can capture the most specific feeling or mood in a short 2-4 minute song. There is not a certain feel or theme to this playlist, rather it is seven songs, some slower and some more upbeat, that I never skip when they come on.
shut up – Greyson Chance
When I first heard this song the beginning immediately drew me in. The vocals with no instruments in the background creates such a cool feel that I immediately loved. It’s a pretty slow song, but the beat in the background picks it up a bit. This is the only song I’ve heard by Greyson Chance; however, you might know him from a viral video of him singing “Paparazzi” while playing the piano when he was in grade school.
Take a Walk – Passion Pit
If you want to feel like you’re the main character in a movie, blast this song with the windows down while driving. It is a necessary experience. Passion Pit is an American Indie Rock band that creates feel-good songs like this that can always put me in a good mood. This song just makes you want to get up and dance around with your friends.
watch – Billie Eilish
This song is absolutely beautiful. Billie Eilish began releasing music in 2016 and is now a global superstar at 18. She is incredibly talented and her voice is so soothing. I didn’t love her music when I first heard it, but a few of her songs like this one grabbed me. I think this is a good song to play at night whether it’s in the car on a night drive or in bed at night just vibing.
More Than You Know – Axwell /\ Ingrosso
You know when you are driving with a friend and blasting music and one of those songs with a huge beat drop comes on and you both just start bouncing and head banging in your seat when the beat drops? This is one of those songs. It makes me want to get up and jump around. If you like EDM type music, this is a good song for you.
Cruel Summer – Taylor Swift
I couldn’t not include a Taylor Swift song on this playlist. Taylor Swift is one of my all time favorite artists –– I’ve seen her in concert three times –– so it was really hard to choose just one song. However, I decided to include one off her newest album, “Lover,” because I feel like a lot of people hate on her new music. Her old music is amazing of course, but most people don’t even give her new music a chance. Her newer albums include so many masterpieces, and “Cruel Summer” is one of them.
Talia – King Princess
This is the first song I had heard by King Princess, and I fell in love with her voice. The lyrics are actually pretty sad but it doesn’t give me a sad feel like some other songs do. I love screaming the lyrics to this song anywhere and anytime. I can just imagine this song live; I already know it would be amazing.
Night Changes – One Direction
I wasn’t a “Directioner” when One Direction was together, but I would consider myself one now. Even though all of their songs are several years old and all of the band members have solo careers now, their old songs are still some of my favorites. “Night Changes” is a pretty song that I love listening to on night drives. I will never get tired of this song no matter how many times I’ve heard it. And I would KILL to see One Direction in concert (if only they were still together).
