Hi! My name is Ella Metzmeier and I am a videographer for On the Record. I am so excited to be doing this week’s Music Monday and show you some of my favorite songs recently. Now, I honestly have no clue how to describe my music taste, as it is always changing, but right now I guess you could say I am into indie pop/indie rock. So, without further adieu, here are a few of my current favorite songs!

“Creep” by Radiohead

I feel like this song is just a classic. “Creep” was the first Radiohead song I ever listened to, and it will always be my favorite. Whenever I hear it, I just want to scream the lyrics at the top of my lungs and dance around my room. You know when, as a kid, you’re driving in the car or walking down the street and you feel like you’re in a music video? Well, this song takes me right back to those days. I feel like Radiohead did an amazing job conveying emotion through this song. So, even if Radiohead says they hate this song, I will always love it.

“When I’m Down” by Whethan and Oliver Tree

I love this song so much! I first found this song when I was creating a playlist and it showed up as recommended. I listened to it for about 10 seconds before adding it to the playlist. I’m sure many of you have heard “Alien,” another really popular song by Oliver Tree. This song has a very similar vibe. It reminds me of biking in the summertime with my headphones in, blasting music. If you’re looking for a good, upbeat song, this is definitely the one!

“Ribs” by Lorde

I just recently got into Lorde, and I’m so glad I did. Everything about this song is amazing: the melody, the lyrics, the feeling. The song is about the anxieties of being a teen and the fear of growing up. As the song goes on, it speeds up, as if the anxiety is building up. I feel like this song and its concept is so relatable to most teens. As a high-schooler who has no clue what they want to do with their life, there’s so much pressure and anxiety put on us. I strongly recommend this song and the entire “Pure Heroine” album from Lorde.

“505” by Arctic Monkeys

I wish I could listen to this song for the first time again. It’s that good. Seriously, if you have never listened to it, drop everything you’re doing and go listen to it. When writing this, I listened to this song over and over, and it never got old. Every time, I still sing –or shout out of tune – every lyric. So, if for some reason you’ve never listened to this song, I highly recommend it!

“Kids” by Current Joys

This is another song about being a kid and how terrifying growing up is. My favorite lyric is, “Oh I am just a kid, I’ve never seen the world.” As a teen, there’s still so much left to discover. We are still so young and so lost. We are working on discovering ourselves. I first found this song on Tik Tok, which I feel is how many teens find songs now, and have loved it since. If you want to reminisce about being a kid or just want a good song to listen to, this is a great one.

“Heroes” by David Bowie

If you have ever seen “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” then you probably know this song. This song plays during the iconic scene when Sam stands up out of the car, sticks up her hands, and embraces the air as Patrick drives on the highway and through a tunnel. The song is again played at the end of the movie during Charlie’s last letter, where he does the same thing. “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” is my all time favorite movie, which is why I also love this song.
