Wanting to escape this chilly winter weather? Look no further! Fleur de Tea, a new Black-owned tea shop and cafe in Louisville, has yummy drinks and treats that everyone can enjoy!

What is it? 

Fleur de Tea is an authentic tea shop located in the East end of Louisville. Louisville native Jasmine Gatti, 29, opened the shop in Jan. 2021. 

“I really noticed that there was a lack of tea shops in Louisville and kind of around here,” Gatti said. 

Fleur de Tea offers over 60 flavors of teas, which can be made into a latte (adding steamed milk), served in a teapot, or even steeped in a french press! In addition to the variety of flavors of black, green, white, oolong, rooibos, pu-erh, herbal, chai, and bubble teas, the shop also serves coffee drinks and smoothies. If you’re hungry, they also serve house-made scones or fruit tarts. 

As you can imagine, Fleur de Tea has a lot to offer. The menu is large, but not overwhelming at all! Each tea has a description of its origin and flavor notes if you’re like me and aren’t familiar with all the different kinds of teas. The employees, and Gatti herself, are extremely knowledgeable about the menu and can help you out if you don’t know what to try. Anyone can find something they would enjoy! 

Jasmine also hosts an Instagram TV (IGTV) series called “The Daily Tea,” where she samples a tea and describes its flavor notes. This is a great way to learn more about tea, or even find one you’d like to try! For more information and, of course, tea knowledge visit their Instagram or website.

Environment:

The cafe was quaint, yet full of life! Soft music was playing in the background, and the cushioned sofa and chairs make the perfect place to sip on your tea. The sign with flowers and foliage made the perfect backdrop for a photo of my tea! The inside of Fleur de Tea was designed very nicely, and had a great balance of being clean, calm, and

playful. 

Price Range: 

Teas range from $2.50 to $5, with bubble teas being the most expensive. Pastries are $3.50 to $5. The smoothies are the most expensive item on the menu at $6, and coffee drinks ranged from $2.50 to $4. There are a few add-ons you can order for your tea, like serving it in a teapot, which range from $1 to $3. 

Hours:

Monday: Closed

Tuesday-Saturday: 7 a.m – 6 p.m.

Sunday: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

COVID-19: 

Fleur de Tea is taking COVID-19 precautions and is following social distancing recommendations. Some tables are closed inside to allow for social distancing, and all employees wear masks. I felt that they were doing a great job taking precautions, but you could always take your tea to go! 

As far as running a business during a pandemic, Gatti seemed optimistic. 

“I’m glad that I opened after everything was in place so I already had a set of rules I could follow instead of being open when it happened,” Gatti said. “I didn’t have to close down like a lot of businesses did.” 

Gatti also has plans for when things return to normal, or as normal as it can be after a pandemic! 

“Before covid, I had plans to do game nights and things like that. So in the future I do want to do that and I just want to create a hangout spot!” Gatti said. 

Audience: 

Fleur de Tea is a place for people of all ages, but is especially somewhere teens should check out. I personally would like to go back when it’s a bit warmer and try the bubble tea. It is also a great opportunity to support a local Black-owned, wom
