With football season in full swing, here are a few of my favorite songs to blast on Friday nights to get hype for the weekly games – whether it’s while I’m getting ready with my best friends or while we’re driving to our very favorite stadium!
“All Falls Down” by Kanye West
I’m starting my list with this song because this is usually how my Friday night tradition begins; blasting this in my best friend Maddy’s car on the way to my house. We started our “Friday tradish” during our sophomore year and have carried it with us into our junior year. Even as sophomores with no licenses, we somehow managed to make every single game, whether it was home and away, and we delivered insane energy every Friday night. Ever since then, “All Falls Down” has become one of our songs, and it definitely isn’t a true Friday night if this song isn’t played in the car at least once!
“Wild Thoughts” by DJ Khaled (feat. Rihanna and Bryson Tiller)
This song is such a 2017 throwback, but, this summer, my friends and I started listening to it religiously during our car rides. I’m not really sure how we even rediscovered this song, but I’m glad we did. The upbeat rhythm and fun lyrics make it an automatic play in our cars. It always gets us hyped up and makes everyone in the car super excited because it’s such a classic that everybody knows the words to, or at least they should. Even our guy friends get really into it every time it comes on, so that should really say something about the unifying abilities of this song.
“Headlines” by Drake
Although this song may admittedly be considered basic, it is popular for a reason. I don’t think a Friday night has gone by this year without this song playing during our car ride to the game because it always gets the job done of getting people hype, specifically with its lyrics. Drake will always set the right energy for a good night, especially when it’s one of his more upbeat songs like “Headlines.”
“The Thrill” by Wiz Khalifa and Empire of the Sun
This song is such a favorite of mine because of its fun beat and its lyrics. The music itself is so catchy and just radiates the perfect “windows down” energy that is needed on a Friday night. It’s one of those songs that you just need to blast out of your speakers, with all of your windows open, and scream-sing along to with your friends. The lyrics are also so good once you really listen to what he’s saying.
“NEW DROP” by Don Toliver
I recently got into Don Toliver’s music over the summer, so I don’t think I can really call myself a true fan, but I absolutely love what I’ve found so far. When his new album, Hardstone Psycho, dropped in June, it introduced me to his newer and older music, and I’ve been obsessed since. “NEW DROP” is one of my favorites from the album, specifically for the Friday night energy, because the beat of the song is so addicting and makes you instinctively want to dance to it. I would definitely recommend giving this song a listen if you even slightly like rap music because it’s so fun to listen to and puts me in a good mood almost instantly.
