As the seasons change, so does my playlist. Here are a few songs that have been on repeat for me recently, each one fitting perfectly into this transitional time of year.
“Out of Tune” by The Backseat Lovers
This song played over and over again on my speaker this past summer, and I’m still clinging to the last few days of good weather by keeping it on repeat. The guitar and rhythm are just so addictive. It has the perfect blend of nostalgia and feel-good energy, keeping the warmth of summer alive even as the weather cools down.
“The First Taste” by Fiona Apple
If you know me, you know I love Fiona Apple. My current favorite song from her is “The First Taste” and I always find myself coming back to this song again and again. The blend of jazz and rock shows her incredible voice and talent, with each note feeling raw and powerful. There’s something about the way her vocals flow through the melody that pulls me in every time.
“Why Do I Cry” by Margo Guryan
I don’t exactly remember when I first came across this song but it became an immediate favorite. Margo Guryan’s voice in “Why Do I Cry” is so smooth and sweet, even though the lyrics are filled with emotion. The melancholic tone of both her voice and the subdued melody adds to the sense of longing that runs through the lyrics. It’s the kind of song you want to listen to on a quiet fall night, when everything feels just a little more reflective.
“not a lot, just forever” by Adrianne Lenker
“not a lot, just forever” is from songs, one of my favorite albums of all time. The cover of the album is even on my phone’s lock screen. This particular song is the one I listen to the most. Adrianne Lenker’s voice is so soft and comforting, perfect for those cool autumn days as the leaves start falling.
“I Want Someone Badly” by Jeff Buckley (cover)
This song just gets to me every time. Everytime I hear “I Want Someone Badly,” I have to play it again. Jeff Buckley’s beautiful voice shines through, making it impossible not to feel every emotion he conveys. It’s the kind of song that makes you stop whatever you’re doing and just listen, feeling every note as it washes over you.
“Doomsday” by Lizzy McApline
When I first discovered “Doomsday” a couple years ago, I immediately fell in love with it. Recently, I’ve been listening to it on my way to school and I just can’t stop. McAlpine’s voice is absolutely unreal, especially in the last verse. It captures that bittersweet feeling so beautifully, making it a song I just can’t get enough of.
