Last Sunday, my aunt, father, and I traveled to Bean Coffee in the Germantown/Schnitzelburg neighborhood. Located on Goss Avenue, just off Eastern Parkway, the shop’s bright green door adds to the welcoming atmosphere the shop radiates. Inside the coffee shop, a cozy and inviting vibe envelopes patrons. A display of pastries and the large menu on the wall show the abundance of good choices to pick from. I was in the mood for something simple, so I ordered a regular iced latte. My dad was looking for something a little more eccentric and out there so he ordered a “smooth brew” – a cold brew with lots of caffeine and almond milk. Cold brew can often have an aftertaste of acidity and isn’t often that sweet, but my dad claims the bitter flavor was not as dominant, making it a more enjoyable form of cold brew. My aunt was interested in a caffeine-free and sweet drink. There are several different smoothie options on the menu perfect for her. She decided to order the pineapple & kale smoothie, which includes pineapple, kale, honeydew, honey, and more. The tangy yet refreshing smoothie was the best drink of the afternoon. Although none of us purchased food, Bean offers a variety of bagels, salads, and sandwiches. It’s the perfect place to spend a day studying or catching up with friends.
