The weather is getting cooler and people are getting tired. We all need a little pick-up, so here are my top five favorite house music songs to get you hyped.
“Bayside” by Obskür
What a classic. From my earliest stages in my house music journey, this song has remained a cornerstone in my ears. The song has only one line – “peace to the people from New York to LA, power to the people that struggle everyday” – but it emphasizes that the song should be listened to for the layering of the quick beat and synthesized drums and sounds.
“Dance Dance Dance Dance” by Kaytranada
Off of his most recent album, this tune successfully exhibits the title. Urging the listener to dance, I am always moving some part of my body when I listen to this song, whether it be in the shower or in silent study skills. I fell even more in love with this song when I attended his concert about two weeks ago, his performance of the song completely outdoing the track on my phone. All of Kaytranada’s songs are absolute bangers, but I had to pick my favorite for the sake of Music Mondays.
“Homies (feat. Henry Wu)” by Fred again..
Fred again.. is an outstanding DJ, selling out shows everywhere he goes and even being nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys this year. This song is only one of many examples of his spectacular commercial success. Deep electronic noises circulating through the song, entangled with the lyrics, “I’m here for my homies,” creates a perfect addition to a hype or dance playlist. This song will never fail to get me up and going.
“Assumptions” by Sam Gellaitry
Originally, this song was not on my playlist, but I saw Sam Gellaitry as an opener at a concert and I instantly added this song to my playlist. More fast paced than normal house music songs, it creates the perfect beat drop and gets everyone going. Whenever I am driving with friends to a social event, this song will always be in circulation. Ask some of my closest friends and they will tell you that it is always in queue.
“Take It Off” by Fisher
Last, but certainly not least, is one of Fisher’s most popular songs. My favorite part about this track is the extended build-up to the awaited beat drop. Made only to be played at max volume, I can’t help but bounce to this contagious beat. No matter the occasion, this song is guaranteed to get everyone up and moving. This song being played in my car is synonymous to a singer performing their most popular song.
