With Punxsutawney Phil unfortunately predicting six more weeks of winter and snow remaining from the storm two weeks ago, junior designer Grace Kirby talks about some of her favorite songs that remind her of summer, hoping it will come faster.
“Five Dollar Pony Rides” by Mac Miller
With not too many upbeat songs on “Balloonerism,” this song really stuck out to mee. While I think every song on this album is amazing, in “Five Dollar Pony Ride” Mac Miller captures the carefree, nostalgic essence of summer, where the simple joys of life take center stage. The laid-back vibe and reflective lyrics evoke the warmth and freedom of the season, celebrating fleeting moments of happiness and ease which I love in Mac’s songs.
“3500” by Travis Scott
While this song isn’t new, I don’t think I could ever get annoyed with or tired of it. To me it just has such summer night vibes. I love playing “3500” when I’m driving at night and I just know that during the summer it will be ten times better.
“Never Really Over” by Katy Perry
I don’t know what or when the switch flipped, but I have been on such a Katy Perry kick lately. I think it has something to do with the summery vibes of all her songs or maybe something to do with the nostalgia attached to all of her albums. This song specifically has been on repeat in my airpods recently.
“Overtime” by Zach Bryan
With summer still being over 130 days away, I cannot even express how much I want to be at the beach right now blasting songs like “Overtime” by Zach Bryan. This song and many of his other songs carry a fun soothing energy.
“Dead Sea” by The Lumineers
“Dead Sea” evokes a sense of longing and reflection with its rich, soulful melody mirroring the quiet, peaceful moments of a summer evening. In comparison to other songs people associate with summer that tend to be upbeat, this song is slower and melodic, but still screams summer to me.
