CycLOUvia is an annual event organized by the city of Louisville, Kentucky, that transforms streets into vibrant public spaces by temporarily shutting them off to vehicle traffic. This initiative invites people to walk, bike, run, skate, and engage in various activities, creating a sense of community. One storefront really makes its mark during this event: Home Skateshop.
Home Skateshop is a beloved cornerstone of Louisville’s skate culture, representing the city’s vibrant skate scene.
“There are a lot of different ages. Honestly, it’s just very eclectic,” Noah Hulsman, owner of Home Skateshop, said about Louisville’s skate scene.
Each year during CycLOUvia, Home Skateshop honors the skating community by setting ramps out for local skateboarders to showcase their skills.
“We put a couple of rails out into the street, started skating on them, and before we knew it, we became the only spectator event that’s in all of CycLOUvia,” Hulsman said.
Starting many years back, Home Skateshop continues to provide the Louisville skating community a platform to present their skills, regardless of age or experience.
