As temperatures fall and sickness spreads, I’ve been battling a hideous, unrelenting cough for the past week and a half. This has led me on a quest around Louisville to find the ultimate soup to heal my respiratory system.
I found this soup at Time 4 Thai on Frankfort Avenue.
As soon as my friend and OTR designer Yina and I stepped into Time 4 Thai on a frigid Wednesday evening, we could tell we were in for a delicious, authentic meal. The interior of this Crescent Hill establishment is filled with intricate decorations and even a wall full of antique clocks. Familiar pop songs played over the speakers, instantly putting us in a good mood.
The service was quick and friendly, and the staff was available to answer any questions we had.
Yina ordered the pad thai with shrimp ($19.95). The stir-fried noodles came with shrimp, egg and bean sprouts. She ordered a spice level of four stars (very hot). The spice level was just right, enhancing the dish but not overpowering it. The bean sprouts were crisp and fresh, complementing the nutty sauce of the noodles. Overall, the dish was warm and comforting, perfect for the chilly weather.
I got the glass noodle soup with tofu ($6.95). The soup contains a bouillon-based broth with mixed vegetables, scallion and cilantro. I ordered a spice level of three stars (hot). The broth and vegetable mix gave the soup a strong depth of flavor, and the mix of crunchy vegetables with soft tofu lent great textural variety. The spice level was certainly “hot,” with each spoonful containing dozens of chili flakes. The steaming hot temperature and fiery spice made this the perfect soup to temporarily soothe my aching cough.
Frankfort Avenue is home to several bustling restaurants, but we saw Time 4 Thai as a standout. While Louisville has several Thai spots worthy of your visit, we highly recommend Time 4 Thai if you’re looking for a charming and authentic meal.
