Opinion: Super Bowl LVIII

Two different paths have led to the same destination: Las Vegas, Nevada. Super Bowl LVIII is taking place this Sunday between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers. Find out the story behind each team and who I think is going to take home the victory.

Super Bowl Sunday: This Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. The Chiefs, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, are prepared for the occasion, this being their fourth Super Bowl appearance within the last 5 years. The 49ers have quite a different story. Led by the last pick of the 2022 draft, Brock Purdy, they are attempting to defeat one of the greatest dynasties the NFL has ever seen.

So who should you root for?

The Kansas City Chiefs: The Chiefs have rallied a massive fan base after the news broke that Chiefs star tight end, Travis Kelce, is dating Taylor Swift. Ever since, the team has been in the spotlight. This spotlight includes countless advertisements played during games that feature star players such as Mahomes, Kelce, and even their coach, Andy Reid. They continued to dominate this season, recording 11 wins and 6 losses, clinching the AFC West title for the 8th year in a row. Kansas City has created one of the most recognizable brands in football that has also caused part of America to grow tired of them. Win or lose this weekend, the Chiefs aren’t going anywhere.

San Francisco 49ers: Although the 49ers haven’t created a household name like the Chiefs have, they have instilled a winning culture in San Francisco. Their quarterback, Brock Purdy, was nicknamed ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ for being the last pick of the NFL draft gives the team an underdog mentality coming into the game. In only his second season, Purdy has helped his team reach the Super Bowl for the first time since 2020, when they were defeated by Mahomes and the Chiefs. They also had great success in the regular season, winning 12 games while losing only 5 and clinching the #1 seed in the NFC division. San Francisco will be going into this weekend looking for revenge.

Tune in: You can watch the game this Sunday (2/11) at 6:30 p.m. on CBS. My score prediction: 27-21 with the Chiefs winning.
