Now in an age where everyone tries to find a niche and “underground” artist, it can feel overwhelming to always update your music to the newest artist of the week. So what songs can withstand this sway of change?
“Teenage Dirtbag” by Wheatus
This song for me is one of my biggest go to’s. Family asking you to pick the music? Teenage Dirtbag. Friends asking you to go on ‘aux’ and you don’t know what they are listening to? Teenage Dirtbag. To me, this is a song anyone can listen to and won’t bring the mood down.
“Stacy’s Mom” by Fountains of Wayne
I was nine or ten and starting to get into music more as I got my first phone. My stepdad was choosing a song and found out I didn’t know Stacy’s Mom. That whole car ride was then spent getting me to know songs from the 2000s. This turned into most of my new playlist also including this song, as it’s a good starting point to start building onto.
“There She Goes” by The La’s
A simple classic that finds me wherever I am. Whether it was the best day ever or my worst, this song always just works. It’s instantly recognizable, which is one thing I love the most about it.
“More Than a Feeling” by Boston
This song can fit into any playlist by letting the instrumental take over and allowing the vibes to carry through. In addition to the design of the album cover, everything about this song is nostalgic.
“Kiss Me” By Sixpence None The Richer
Sitting on the Ohio River or homecoming, this song can fit the attitude of any setting. I’ve met people who always skip this song, but honestly, why would you?
