As the weather gets colder and the days get shorter, it can be hard to say goodbye to the warm months. But there are plenty of things to enjoy in the fall and winter—like good music. Senior Marketing Director Frances Fendig shares some of her favorite Thanksgiving and winter songs, a playlist she likes to listen to as the holiday season approaches.
“White Winter Hymnal” by Fleet Foxes
Hands down one of the best wintery songs. It’s beautiful harmony paired with the simple lyrics makes it a great listen on a freezing day. This song perfectly captures the nostalgia of winter and the Holiday season that is approaching.
“Silver Lining” by Guards
Another song filled with feelings of nostalgia and uplifting lyrics. I really like the warm and inviting tone of this song and the happy rhythm only adds to the mood.
“For Emma” by Bon Iver
This song is definitely the slowest one on the playlist and brings a more sentimental and saddened mood. The gentle voice and chorus makes it easy to listen to and the perfect song for a cold winter night.
“I’d Rather Go Blind” by Etta James
This song differs from the others on this list because it is one of Etta James’ more emotional songs. The powerful lyrics and repeating chorus paired with the slow instruments in the background make it such a sad but beautiful listen.
“The Boxer” by Simon & Garfunkel
A song that starts slow and moves into a powerful and loud one. The steady and slow melody that is present throughout the song is comforting and easy to listen to. The simple yet emotional lyrics, stand out to me and makes this song one I come back to every winter.
